The Wolcottville, Indiana community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of 18-year-old Kaden Henry Lynn Wiese, who tragically passed away following a single-vehicle accident in rural LaGrange County on Thursday evening, July 23, 2026.
According to the LaGrange County Sheriff’s Department, deputies responded around 7 p.m. to the 2500 block of West 700 South near Topeka after receiving reports of a crash. Investigators said Kaden was driving a truck eastbound when the vehicle lost control, left the roadway, and struck a fence. Despite emergency response efforts, Kaden was pronounced dead at the scene. An 18-year-old passenger in the vehicle was not injured.
Authorities indicated that speed is believed to have been a contributing factor in the crash. The LaGrange County Sheriff’s Department continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the tragic collision.
Kaden was born on March 15, 2008, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, to Scott and Laura (Hart) Wiese. He was a student at Lakeland High School and was preparing to begin his senior year. He was also enrolled in the welding program at the Impact Institute in Kendallville, where he was developing skills that reflected his hardworking nature and determination to build a future.
Outside of school, Kaden was known for his strong work ethic and passion for the outdoors. He worked as a landscaper with Curb Appeal in Kendallville, where his dedication and willingness to work hard were appreciated by those around him. He found happiness in simple moments, especially fishing, hunting, mowing the yard, and spending time surrounded by nature.
During his time at Lakeland High School, Kaden participated in wrestling and football, where he formed meaningful friendships and created lasting memories with teammates, coaches, and classmates. Those who knew him remember him as someone with a kind heart, a positive attitude, and a genuine appreciation for the people and activities he loved.
Kaden’s family described him as a young man who enjoyed being around animals, spending time outside, and making the most of life’s everyday moments. His love for the outdoors and his appreciation for hard work were qualities that defined him and will continue to be remembered by those closest to him.
He is survived by his parents, Scott (Melissa) Wiese of LaGrange and Laura (Trent Fordeck) Wiese of Wolcottville; sisters Kristen (Clayton McCollum) Wiese and Kloee Wiese; maternal grandfather Lynn Hart; paternal grandmother Cindy Yoder; niece Paislee Lacey; nephews Kannon Lacey, Weston Miller, and Maverick Miller; special friends Cameron Zervos, Hunter Ellinger, Bryar Alleshouse, and Greyson Miller; and his beloved cat, Cletus.
Kaden was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Colleen Hart; paternal grandfather, Sam Wiese; and paternal step-grandfather, Willie Yoder.
Following the news of his passing, friends, classmates, teammates, and community members have come together to remember a young man whose life, though far too short, made a meaningful impact on many people. The memories of his laughter, kindness, determination, and love for the outdoors will remain with those who knew and loved him.
Visitation will be held Monday, July 27, 2026, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Tuesday, July 28, 2026, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Young Family Funeral Home in Wolcottville. Funeral services will follow on Tuesday at 3 p.m.
